In the 2024 edition, S’Estepa founder and CEO Pedro Campaner was one of six influential professionals in hospitality, architecture and design asked to reflect on where Mallorca’s holiday industry is heading.
“A true paradise” — and a responsibility
Pedro’s contribution, published under Insight, frames tourism as both Mallorca’s greatest asset and its central challenge:
“The future of tourism in Mallorca is very promising due to its unique characteristics, such as the climate, its people, traditions, the rich gastronomy, its beaches, and the diversity of its landscapes — these elements make Mallorca a true paradise.”
“Tourism is our main economic engine, bringing significant wealth to the island. However, it also causes temporary overcrowding, leading to high consumption of natural resources and increased waste production. It is essential to consider the people working in this sector and ensure that they can meet their basic needs.”
“Taking care of this paradise and managing tourism in a sustainable way will be the most important challenge that our society will have to face, and this will determine the future of tourism in Mallorca. There is no exact formula, but it must be a solution that works for both visitors and the preservation of our paradise.”
That view — landscape and natural resources as something to be protected rather than consumed — is the same principle that guides S’Estepa’s garden work: native planting, water efficiency, and designs built to mature over decades.
